The Rhythm Retreat: A Transformational Home Addition and Design Project

In December 2023, we embarked on one of our most transformative home renovation projects to date—The Rhythm Retreat. This two-story home addition was designed for a busy professional couple with a growing family, turning what was initially a temporary home into a space that truly feels like their forever home.

Creating a Personalized Adult Retreat

The goal for this primary suite renovation was clear: create a sanctuary for the couple. Initially, they shared a bathroom with their teenage son, but this overhaul brought them the luxury of their own space, including a spacious primary bathroom and a large walk-in closet for the husband, who needed 50% more closet space. This thoughtful addition allows the family to thrive in their home. The closet is fully equipped with a washer and dryer for ultimate convenience, reflecting the couple's busy professional lives.

As huge fans of The Grateful Dead, the couple requested we integrate four framed Jerry Garcia prints, each depicting different stages of his life. This custom artwork anchors the room and brings personal meaning to the space.

Family-Friendly Design for the Busy Family

A key element of the Rhythm Retreat was creating a functional space for the whole family, including their two active sons.

• The son who previously shared a bathroom now has his own en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet, ensuring everyone has a space of their own.

• Downstairs, we created a family room that serves as the ultimate gathering space for the family—whether it’s watching sports, assembling Legos, or jamming to music.

We also extended the kitchen by adding a butler’s pantry, which enhances the family’s ability to host and enjoy daily meals together.

A Soft Place to Land for the Wife

After the loss of both of her parents in 2022, the wife needed a space where she could retreat after a long, demanding day. We worked closely with her to incorporate family heirlooms, reupholstering multiple pieces of vintage furniture to create a warm, inviting sanctuary. This personalized space now offers her the comfort and peace she deserves.
