Designing Big Dreams in 970 Square Feet
Welcome to Metta Haven—a petite powerhouse of thoughtful design, soulful touches, and intentional living. At just 970 square feet, this home challenged us to think creatively, reimagine its layout, and infuse every inch with purpose and beauty. What started as a dated space with limited functionality is now a modern haven that feels twice its size.
💡 Design Challenge: Maximize, Modernize, Metta-fy
We approached this project with one goal: make it feel like a home five times its size—without adding square footage. To do that, we:
Removed one of the original bedrooms to create a spacious open kitchen and dining area
Carved out a laundry closet and a compact pantry
Stole square footage from two small closets to design a wet room that feels like a spa
Built a custom closet in the primary bedroom to add much-needed storage
🛁 The Wet Room: Where Texture Meets Tranquility
One of our favorite transformations is the new wet room—a tiny footprint that packs a major punch. By combining three tile styles in earthy tones and adding matte black fixtures, we created a space that’s layered, moody, and refreshingly modern. The live-edge wood vanity and vessel sink bring a natural warmth that balances the clean lines of the shower glass and vertical tile layout. It’s a study in contrast—and a lesson in how small can still feel luxurious.

🍽️ The Kitchen: From Galley to Gathering
Once a dark galley kitchen, this space is now a light-filled gathering spot. We expanded the kitchen into the former bedroom, brought in natural wood shelves for everyday display, and added a decorative cover above the range fan—a unique detail that turns a functional element into a focal point. The patterned wallpaper adds an unexpected layer of texture and fun, while the lighting elevates the entire experience.

✨ The Metta Home Philosophy in Action
Metta Haven is a masterclass in designing with intention. We embraced limitations, honored the history of the space, and layered in the loving-kindness that defines every Metta Home project. The result? A petite sanctuary that lives large and welcomes well.
