Heather founded Metta Home in 2017 and is known for interior design that evokes warmth and harmony. Headquartered in Richmond, VA, Metta Home works on interior design projects creating elevated stays while maximizing the property owner's revenue. Coming from a background in interior design and also traveling all over the world for years in furniture product development, Heather has learned what makes a space comfortable, relaxing, and in-synch with personal needs. Using these observations Heather opened several short-term rental homes (Metta Homes) in DC, Charlottesville, and Richmond that she designed herself, pulling from her own personal collection, items the property owner already had, and adding thoughtful touches that have helped her create a list of repeat guests--they just keep coming back.  From projects to freshen up your already running mid/short term rental to new home construction, or renovation. All projects receive the same high degree of love and attention.

A temporary home should be a sanctuary: a harmonious space of realignment where you can reconnect with your self – your thoughts, beliefs and values. This means curating the property with products that function and evoke the feeling of home. Designing and curating with the guests, property owners, the property, and the planet in mind.

With grace and gratitude,

Heather T. Martin

Principal and Founder of Metta Home.

Prior to joining Metta Home, Laura, originally from northern Virginia, completed her formal education at VCU in Fashion Merchandising and Business. From there she went on to work for the Disney company in product development.  She first connected with Heather when they both worked in product development locally in Richmond, Virginia. Their paths crossed again later at a second company and they kept in touch over the years. Laura officially joined the Metta Home team in the summer of 2020. Today, Laura assists in the day to day operations remotely while focusing on her new role as mom to her sweet baby boy. Her “can do” attitude and attention to detail helps us keep things organized and progressing from afar.

Myles has spent the majority of her life pursuing art, photography and writing. After graduating from Lynchburg College with a degree in Studio Art, she moved to Portland, Oregon for 7 years. Where she was named Portland’s Best Fashion Photographer for 2018-2019 by the Portland Fashion & Style Awards. She now lives in Richmond, Virginia with her husband and their tuxedo cat daughter, Lula. She is currently working on her first full-length book and always has a slew of creative projects going on in her life. She is the one that is responsible for helping translate these beautiful spaces to the world wide web for Mettā Home.

COMPLIMENTS

Heather took my mess of a living room and was able to visualize and execute a brand new look and feel for it mostly using things I already had. She took the room to another level by adding a beautiful carpet that brings all the colors of my home together into this central area. And the basket she chose for blankets is awesome! It's just perfect for the room. She also had an eye on getting more space out the room, which is small but now feels much bigger and inviting. I highly recommend Heather to change your home because she surely knows what she's doing!

I moved into my forever home late this Summer and was excited to get started decorating. I kept moving things around and could not seem to figure out the spacing. Lucky for me that I was already familiar with Heather and her brand. I felt very comfortable confiding to her that my budget was not the largest and that I am not completely sure what my style is. Heather was able to lead me through some questions about my likes and dislikes and help me pick a few pieces that were in my price range. Best of all we were able to use pieces of mine that I still like, some that I got for free off of Facebook and now look brand new with a fresh coat of paint (color picked by Heather)and a little fabric and staple gun action (me), and some items Heather suggested that I take from my parent's house. Heather loved the art that I have from my children's school days and encouraged me to use it. My house is turning into a home and I love it! I would highly recommend Heather.
What I love about Heather and Metta is that I have felt comfortable throughout the process. She is great at communicating. I never felt any push to spend more than I am comfortable with, and she encouraged me to use furniture and "art" that I already have. I never thought that a decorator would be something that I could afford, I am so glad that I was wrong about that!

There are not enough good things to say about my experience in working with Heather on my family room redo. I had initially worried about how difficult the process would be in trying to redcorate remotely with someone from another state (I'm in NC and she is in VA) but she came so highly recommended that I was willing to give it a try. Let me tell you - choosing Heather was the absolute best decision I could have ever made. Her own personal style is amazing but her ability to see my vision and teach me about my own style was even better. She worked hand in hand with me helping make beautiful furniture, fabric and color selections that really gave my home the style and feel I had always wanted. She was able to travel to me during initial installation and held my hand remotely through all of the finishing touches. From start to finish she was a true professional that I would recommend to anyone considering any sort of renovation or update.

Heather was a huge help! Next time we are in Richmond I will me sure to call her. She is the best in town and made our stay very stress free. Thanks again. Hope to see you soon!

Heather is excellent at design concept and execution. She managed two remodels for us and we were very pleased with timing, financial management and appearance . We recommend Heather without reservation.

Once condo...

Heather came in during a crunch time to do major upgrades and make design choices for the foundation of our new home. We were moving in from out of town and she managed the entire project, made excellent design recommendations, and kept us in budget by helping us organize the necessities vs long term goals in this massive project. She spent the time to get to know our family to make sure our new house was a “home” for all of us.

These properties were purchased to be used as short term rental/vacation homes for my friends and family. I initially picked some furniture, light fixtures and such, as I was hoping to do all of the design myself, but it quickly became apparent to me that I was in over my head. The homes have a bit of a dated feel with lots of original wood and custom cabinetry but I knew that the right person could take that from clunky to the woodsy, zen feeling I wanted to convey. I’ve worked with Heather a few times on different projects so even though these homes were a few hours away I knew I could trust her to get the job done well. She worked with my decisions and made the more modern furniture I favor make sense in this cozy, homey space. She did a great job designing my outdoor spaces and her knowledge of textiles and outdoor furniture was so helpful in ensuring that the outside purchases would last and be comfortable for guests to enjoy for a long time to come. She made sure each room was comfortable and had unique character and even came in under budget, no small feat with a project and budget of this size! All of this to say what I was asking for was no small undertaking but Heather made it happen and I couldn't be happier with the results! (Attached are photos of both houses)
